Why Janus?

Janus is a Roman god Saturn granted the privilege of reading the past and the future. He is depicted with two faces. He is the guardian of the gate (in Latin ianua), god of transitions, patron of the new projects. His month is January, marking the end and defining the start. Biomedicine needs Janus to read in two worlds, both the discovery and the application one. There is no possibility of therapeutic progress without basic science, and basic science does not increase welfare if it is unable to transform their discoveries into commercial and industrial developments.

Janus, our Janus, occupies the initial diffuse value chain space that both the basic science and the industry can not fill up. The basic science is not able to efficiently contrast the hypothesis, and the industry is commonly not interested if there is a lot to prove. To this end, we acquire exploration rights of academic discoveries or complex projects from third parties and outline a potential product or technology platform, defining a development strategy designed to cover, within two years, those deficiencies that prevent their development progression. Once  the implementation plan is defined, we manage its execution based on networking with external suppliers, and if the results support and strengthen the product profile, we seek partners (start-ups, established companies or venture capital) capable of completing the development stage and marketing the final product.

Our team
brings extensive experience in managing early stage applied biomedical projects in all its dimensions: operational, strategic and business development. We do not pretend to know the answers, but we are in a position to make the key questions to the appropriate partners. Like the Roman god Janus, in Janus Development SL, we want to be bridge and gate in biomedical knowledge that transforms economic and social value, with a sustainable business model to generate adequate returns for our investors.
